And this is our blog
Ok, a confession first - I probably watch the Discovery channel too much. But of late, my viewing pleasure has been reduced somewhat by possibly the most irritating advertising currently on TV. Before and after every ad break is an operatic rendering of the phrase 'Function in an elegant form', complete with a picture of the Audi Q3.
It's bad enough that it's on eight times an hour and that the voice is beginning to hold the same appeal as fingernails on a blackboard. What's worse though, is if you actually think a bit more about it. A quote:
a. Refinement, grace, and beauty in movement, appearance, or manners.
b. Tasteful opulence in form, decoration, or presentation.
That's the definition of elegant. Now look at the picture above - not the best match are they. I am really struggling to see where the word 'elegant' fits. 'Function in a short dumpy form' doesn't have the same ring to it, but is arguably more accurate. It's not an elegant car - it might well be functional, but elegant, no.
I think the word they were looking for sounds a lot like elegant, but has a somewhat different meaning. I'd love to have this recorded, but for now, just imagine this line sung in a graceful, operatic manner:
'Function in an elephant form'
