Risk assessments for small businesses

Managing the health and safety of your small business through good risk assessment and appropriate COSHH assessments will do a lot more than just put a 'tick the box'. Managing and controlling the risk of injury that your day to day work could cause will protect you, your staff and your customers from harm and should, amongst many other things, improve the working environment for your staff; reduce working time lost through injuries; make your small business more attractive to new customers by showing that you care about their safety and show your employees that you care about their health and welfare.

Managing your health and safety makes good business sense

The other direct benefit for the small business owner, brought about by our current 'compensation culture', is the ability to stand up in court following a bad accident knowing that you've taken all reasonable steps to keep your staff safe. If you haven't, you risk at the very least a hefty fine and at the worst a possible prison sentence, and don't forget that your insurance is likely to be invalid if you haven't done all you can to ensure that accidents don't happen.

How qclGroup can help

Our small business consultants will draw upon a wealth of experience to produce simple, easy to understand risk assessments that reflect what you do, how you do it and what you need to do to be safe. To do this, we'll visit your premises or place of work and:

1. Assess the hazards that exist
2. Decide who could be affected by them
3. Assess the severity and the likelyhood of it happening
4. Consider the measures that need to be taken to reduce or remove the risk

We'll then take this information and produce full risk assessments for each significant task that you undertake as well as an action plan for things that need to be adressed either immediately or at some point in the future. Please keep in mind that these risk assessments will not make your life harder or 'tie your small business up in red tape', in fact quite the opposite - if you follow our simple recommendations, not only will you be on the right side of the law, you should begin to see all of the benefits we discussed earlier. For more information on our health and safety services please follow the links below, or if you would like to find out more, please get in touch using any of the methods in the box to the right.

A final note about 'online risk assessments'

Search online for 'risk assessments' and you'll be presented with many companies trying to sell you 'generic' risk assessments to cover the work you do. Guidance from the HSE is that a generic risk assessment is rarely sufficient as it does not take into account vital information about the location of the work or who is doing it. Our risk assessments are completed for your small business , based on the actual work that you do, where you do it and comply fully with all relevant health and safety legislation. If you have bought health and safety documents online and are unsure as to where you stand, please contact us for advice
